Maya’s Kitchen
Maya is a Siberian husky with a beautiful woolly coat, a strong personality, and a very sensitive system. In July 2025, she had her first seizure. After that, I began noticing that stressful moments—loud fireworks, sudden noises, being startled, or booming cars—could be especially difficult for her.
As Maya’s parent, I wanted to become more intentional about the food I gave her. I began preparing simple meals and treats so I could focus on ingredients I recognized, avoid unnecessary extras, and create foods that fit the feeding approach we had chosen for her.
Along the way, I learned that Maya’s stomach did not always tolerate richer foods well. When her meals became too high in fat, her digestion could become unsettled. But I noticed that a small amount of Yez! Foods bread seemed to agree with her.
One day, I was making myself something inspired by polenta using the mix. I added butter and cheese to my portion, and Maya immediately became interested. The smell was irresistible to her, and I let her try a small bite.
The next day, I noticed that she seemed comfortable and her digestion appeared more consistent. That small kitchen experiment sparked an idea: what if I created a Maya-friendly version, without cheese and with pumpkin added as a familiar, simple ingredient?
That is how Maya’s polenta was born.
From there, I began creating more snacks and recipe ideas inspired by Maya—foods made with simple ingredients, designed for sharing in small amounts, and created around the kinds of flavors and textures she genuinely loves. They are little recipes born from observation, care, and the daily joy of cooking for someone you love.
Maya has not had a seizure since March, and every peaceful month feels deeply meaningful to us. I do not credit any single food, recipe, or ingredient for that outcome. Maya’s needs are individual, and her care is guided by ongoing attention, observation, and veterinary support.
Her story is the reason I created these recipes: not as a promise, a treatment, or a solution for other dogs, but as a way to make everyday food feel more thoughtful, comforting, and joyful for Maya.
Important note
Maya’s story reflects one dog’s personal experience and is shared for informational and storytelling purposes only. It is not veterinary medical advice, and these recipes are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, or manage seizures, epilepsy, digestive conditions, or any other medical condition.
Every dog has different nutritional needs, health histories, medication considerations, and food tolerances. Consult your veterinarian or a board-certified veterinary nutritionist before making dietary changes, introducing supplements or MCT oil, or offering new foods to a dog with seizures, digestive symptoms, allergies, or other health concerns.
Introduce new foods gradually and in appropriate portions. If your dog experiences a seizure, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, allergic signs, or another urgent concern, contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary provider promptly.
